Well I got the motor out today, let me tell you how big a PITA that was on a GRASS YARD with NO CONCRETE. I had to put plywood down for the wheels, and after my wheel barrow broke I had to use my homemade trailer chained to my Civic to get it into my shop. G*d I don't wanna know how hard it is going to be with the bigger Mercedes engine.

On an up note, I did cycle the fuel in the tank some more, I need to figure out where the air leak in my line is, I think that I have it pinpointed to somewhere before the pump, guess I need to get some compression and barb fittings for some of the lines, those don't leak at all.

pics of the engine bay, all I could do today

notice my nice notch there, it was originally for the flipped RF intake, I hope that it comes in handy for the OM602, but i'm thinking I might have preferred to have it on the other side. we'll see how the benz oil filter housing interferes (or not)

closeup of the power steering gear box and lines, still left in place. I may have to relocate them, if I need to modify the front crossmember any or not. again, we'll see.

Well the IRS from the 300D is disconnected, only has the speedometer cable attached to it (it's on the diff on this vehicle.) Rain, lack of light, and an empty stomach stopped me tonight. Beat the hell out of my knee though when I was moving the exhaust setup. It is in pretty solid shape, just need to adapt some hangers and I'll be in good shape
This rear end is actually pretty nice, has a coil spring and a shock, not strut tower. Rear disc brakes as well, and the rotors aren't in bad shape. The pads need replacing though. The e-brake bracket will be easy to adapt. This all will make the install nice and easy.
My only real concern though is the fuel tank setup. On the 300D it is between the back seat and the trunk, and is gravity fed to the fuel pump. That part I'm not concerned about though, it is the location of where the IRS is going to be mounted that has me uncertain. I may need to adjust the location of the fuel tank or adapt the 300 tank somehow, that will suck a lot but is also doable.
Next is the full removal of the IRS and getting the rear of Redemption on blocks so I can mock up a lineup. Remember how I wanted to have the shorter bed on the truck but didn't want to adjust the frame or the suspension any? This might be a way for me to have that bed

Ok I got it out, and I got pictures I might get to take the B series rear end out today if everything lines up

Pretty IRS out of the 300. Note that the springs do NOT go with the shocks, I only put them there to keep the whole package together.

A better shot of where the coil springs go:

It looks like it's going to line up nicely. I may need to reinforce the frame in some sections, I don't know exactly how I'm going to do it yet, but I do have some ideas.

Speedometer sensor, it's electronic for the 300, looks like I'm using the 300D computer after all. Ah well

And this is where it goes:

Here is the exhaust, it looks like I won't have to do too much modification to it at all, this I like

This'll come out next:

Trying to figure out what wheel style I want to do for the B, I can easily find additional wheels to complete a set and to have a full size spare.
A:

B:

The 300 sitting on blocks. It's a sad day but the paperwork nightmare to get it titled just isn't worth it:

I can rest easily though that I'll be able to incorporate a lot from this car into the truck's build and my 190s build. A lot of the parts interchange, including what is damaged on the 190 but isn't on the 300. I'm hoping the windshield is one of those that will swap, I don't think that it is, but it's worth a shot as the spare is in great shape.

Made some more progress today, I sure do like spring weather in February (minus the rain.) I got the shifter out, it is a neat setup. There are 2 cables that are attached to the shifter, one to the brake pedal and one to the ignition switch. Notice that the hole for the automatic transmission is much smaller than the standard shift for the B series.

A closeup of the shifter.

Where the cables go.

I also removed the ignition switch, I now gotta find a wiring diagram for it (and the purpose of the 2 vacuum lines.) The cables should be pretty easy to incorporate. I'm also thinking that I might need to use the diesel brake booster, I figure it wouldn't hurt, and also this way I can incorporate the ABS system Hey, I have the parts, and they all worked well, so why not???

Comin right along. Wish we had good weather.

Well I fully disconnected the driveshaft today, I found that one of the nuts holding the propeller shaft to the flex discs was missing, an otherwise new flex disc needs to be replaced now. I pulled the speedo cable through the firewall (I couldn't figure out how to disconnect it from the transmission from under car) and disconnected most of the wires/vacuum lines from the engine. Motor mounts were replaced recently, but one of the bolts were missing and the other one was finger tight loose. AC and power steering are also disconnected, I also figured out why it over-pressurized, one of the evaporator lines was bent.

Made some progress today. The solid axle is now removed from the truck, brake cables intact and everything. I lined up the IRS to see how it would look and how I'm actually going to be pulling this off.

Out with the old:

Waiting for it's fate (unknown)

Lined up:

The solid axle I have is in good shape, brake shoes were still good last time the truck ran, and the cables are uncut. Ready to drop in and bleed.

I wanna see better pics in daylight

The next round of pics are going to be of the engine lined up, getting ready for mounts and all Then I'll be able to figure out exactly where the rear end is going to be mounted and which bed I'm going to use.
