One thing I was surprised Ernies article didnt touch on was that alot of guys can't build. I used to be all about the 'built not bought' attitude until I started to see the kind of shit some people were building. Now I'm definitley not saying you need a shop to build you a sick ride. Some of the baddest trucks out there are garage built. But Its also safe to say that for every 1 of those trucks there are probably 10 more guys with the 'if he can do it I can do it' attitude out in their driveways 'welding' scrap metal brackets and engineering some 'original' setup onto their trucks. The those guys get on the net, post pics of their abortion in progress, and anyone who speaks negatively on it or tried to give some constructive criticism is labeled a hater. So they listen to the other guys just like them going "yo that shit is badass... fuck the haters man keep doing what you are doing" which inspires them to keep on working away, and also other 'do it yourself-ers' to follow suit. I've seen it countless times.

Its the built not bought attitude that makes these kids think they CAN and NEED to build their own ride, when the truth is that a lot of people don't have the brains or skills to actually do it. These trucks get on the road and get everyone else in the scene labeled as butchers. I dont think Minitruckin' needs that image. So if you aren't capable, stick to paying someone who is. If you want to learn, don't just dive in head first and tell everyone to fuck off when its done. practice your metalfab skills. Do hours upon hours of reasearch and dont brush off all the guys with a different idea than you as a hater. Some of them might have a clue what they are doing.

Build it, buy it, rent it, get a hand me down who cares, clean it, shine it, and go out and show it and make friends and bring in new blood to the scene. If some one offered you a chip foose, Boyd connington, or Rides by Troy I KNOW NOT ONE PERSON WILL GIVE YOU SHIT THAT YOU BOUGHT IT OR GOT OVERHAULED ON TV!!! SO WHY IS IT A BIG DEAL IN THIS SCENE.... ok. just went in the negative i just spent my last three cents on this deal...I'm going shopping for a steering wheel for Reso...lates

I can see both sides of the issue. I ave done the work on my truck with the help of friends and club members. It wouldn't be as far along as it is today without them. I like working on my own truck and as long as I can do the work I'm going to. But I do understand there are people out there that love the scene and can't do all the work themselves and don't have the oportunity to do the work.
What kills me is long kids that get a shop to do the work and then just beat the truck to death. Mommy and Daddy paid for it once so know they don't respect the truck at all. I think its these people that give the mini scene a bad name. i know there are a couple like this where I live and I'm sure I'm not the only one who sees them.
I have also seen the same person go to a show. Pay the entry fee and hang out a while. After several trucks show up that are in his class, he went and asked for his money back and went home. This person isn't into for the fun and to make friends, my opinion is all he cares about is getting attention.

I remember when mini's were fun before all the politics came into play.

Yeah I'm paying to have work done. Do I care what you think? NO. Fuck you.

I'm gonna finish my truck, show it, and throw back some cold one's with my friends.

damn right Ben

hats off to Ernie. I as well used to have the "built not bought attitude". and if there is one thing that will tear apart the mini-truckin society it is this theory.

In the end I am lost why it matters. Everyone has opinions and at some point people should agree to disagree. Don't look down your nose at anyone due to skill level or money they spend. Get over it move on and lets grow this sport.

let me reiterate this isnt a thread made to exploit people who buy there truck all i was doing was giving an opinion on the story how i feel about what he said i could care less if you buy it or build it your not doing it fo me and im not doing it for you

I personally dont care if you buy it, build it, or pay for it to be built as long people don't claim credit for work that isn't there own.
There is no need to lie about what you have or haven't done to your ride.

I in the past have bought projects. When you are low on cash sometimes it is easier to buy a truck with a bag job or hydros or a bodydrop. This time around I bought a truck with just a bag job and did it all myself even the redo of the bag job. So I basically have built my truck I dont care if people get the trucks built sometimes it is safer that way. Cause if you dont have the skills I would rather pull up to a built by shop ride then a hacked ride. My truck has been totally been rebuilt by me. So therefore I believe I have built this ride. I get many compliments on my ride and I give many compliments on others. I am not all about the BUilt not bought thing but sometimes I get mad when people that have trucks built step to me and say crap about mine. considering I have done every inch of my truck in my parking lot no garage. I read the article and yes i side with him on some of it. But he didnt hit the spot of people that get them built or buy them built step to you who is actually building the ride because money and creativity is our issues. anyways I know i am rambling sorry.
