All in all this forum is actually one of the most positive I've seen on SSM in a while. It's good to see how many people agree on the basic issue and statement (built not bought) being a negative for our scene, but also sharing the attitude of "Let's make things more positive of the future of this sport"
Hell, I've been in the scene for about 6 years now and I still don't own a truck. I still think of myself as a mini trucker though. I want to build a mini in the next year and besides basic body work there's not much more I can do myself. I don't know how to weld and fabricate so in my opinion it would be my best interest to leave it to a professional. Not to mention the positive effect on local small business owners who have poured their life into owning a legit shop. It's all about interest in the scene and having a good time. The only time i can agree with built not bought is when the new owner tries to take full credit for everything after they buy a finished truck. That pisses me off. There are plenty of TV Dinners out there that I would love to own, but if I ever purchased a finished truck I would feel obligated to give credit where credit is due. Plus most people in the scene know where vehicles came from so it's be easy to get called out.
Take Keith with the ranger that's on the cover of our last dvd. That guy will be the 1st one to admit what he did and what was already done to that truck, hell that's even what his mini truckin article was about. To me he's definitely a a respectable mini trucker who takes pride in where his truck came from and where it's going.
