Ive always said built, bought, or whatever we all have the same intrest, even the douschebag kid with rattlecan primer that wants to talk bad about other peoples rides. It used to get at me when id here things ppl say about my truck or whatever but finally figured out it doesnt matter, peoples tastes are different, but most of them are just immature and dont know a thing about the work put into a custom ride so you gotta consider the source. Along time ago before there was alot of minitruckers here this "rich kid" got a brand new tacoma and got it fully shaved at my work then off to custom paint, body drop, suicide doors and all.. he coulda got a beemer or any new car he wanted but he was a minitrucker and chose it, not just cuz he didnt have alot of money for a custom ride (which is how I started out with a 86 s10 and loved it), but he still got hated on for it.Its still amazing walkin around a show hearin some idiot (some are even friends)  pointin out a flaw or two on a 95% flawless vehicle! especially when they dont even have a custom ride, but the same person will think lambo doors and a wall of subwoofers is off the hook. Vehicles are driven, and the ones that arent are just as badass the dedication the owners put into keepin them flawless. I still here a couple weeks after a show someone sayin this or that about a vehicle should have gotten a trophy over another, who fukin cares? are you gonna change it? NO. do you sound smarter? NO. use it as motivation to get your ass in the garage and get the trophy next year. Car shows are awesome cuz it normally means workin your ass off all week to get your ride there, partyin the night before with all your friends (especially club members from outta town) and rollin to the show for a good ti me. The peolpe that are hatin just rolled outta bed and showed up. Ive lived in Phoenix my whole life and never heard anyone say a bad thing about Fester, not sure if what ppl are talkin about is on ssm or what but thats why I stopped awhile ago comin on here as much, just didnt really intrest me as much when you have to read 10 idiotic posts to read 1 good one or the person shittalking cant post anymore cuz "they ran outta post for the month", if you can afford a computer, then you can afford   a membership. The moderators have done a good job cleanin it up tho and its cool now. Sorry for the long post but rarely do unless if I see somethin I wanna vent about.

I'd not known fester was catching any type of flack. He should be praised for taking the time and having the dedication to take some of the most iconic trucks that we've ever known and bringing them back to their former glory.Thank you for writing on this Kris This goes hand in hand with Ernie's current thread and him trying to buy back No Regrets 1. So many times have I seen a feature truck, something really well known, like Ernie's truck, or Josh's yota, Kyle's yota, Bobby's yota (are we seeing a trend here? I'd like to do a yota or mistu next haha) pop up for sale, for a stupid ass cheap price. I know Bobby's yota went to a guy that I know that is in the military and I belive stationed in CA right now (jared) so we know it'll be taken care of. Not sure where josh's or kyle's yota went, and we all know that Erinie's truck is just sitting, not being taken care of. I myself, regardless of it being done, would have loved to pick any one of those trucks up, and keep it pristine, and have come close to getting a loan to do so, however, I dont, simply because I dont have the garage space to do it! Granted I'd save and put some billets on something like that, but that is it.  The whole built not bought, bought not built part is 100% ignorance. I think the core values of what so many of us know and feel for what we do are not realized by so many people nowadays. I will flat out say right now, that whatever I end up with next to work on, since i refuse to sell my truck (it's paid off and not done lol) will already be on air, and probably bodydropped. I will be extremely picky about what I get. I've been damn close to getting Trent's pup that's been for sale on here for far to long, but I just cant seem to fork out the money for it, when at this point in time, i reaaaally dont need, and I would love to drive the hell out of it locally, around town, and to shows.    Anyway, the folks that are knocking on fester, really have no business speaking on the subject, since they are obviously too ignorant to see the big picture!

This topic is close to me as well since I bought a rather famous truck myself years ago, Too Low Taco.  I bought it because at the time I was going to buy a new taco and start fresh, but a new taco was basically the same price I could pick up a 1 year old taco with body drop/wheels/stereo/paint and more, plus since I am no fabricator id have to pay or work with friends to customize the truck.  So I bought that truck, the back lash was amazing from some people.  Never felt more disconnected from the scene than at points durring that time, and frankly at the time it made me nearly bail on the "scene" all together.    In the end some shops, myself, and my friends redid that truck top to bottom to what I wanted it to be.  I had some of the best times in my life in that truck.  It was one more minitruck on the road, and thats the attitude more people should take.  Sure your going to have a few pricks that buy up a "done" truck and claim the work on it and thats unfortunate, but frankly I can even live with that if we see just another mini on the road.  We are at best a dying bread.  Hell is there not but only 1 or 2 companies even manufacturing minis anymore, its not hard to see that in a few years its going to get even harder to find one.  So rather than yet again people destroying the "scene" from within by ripping on people for buying a "done" truck, why not build it up within when something like a mini goes to a good home, its one more mini staying on the road and in good hands.   My favorite is the people that talk out of both sides of their mouth on this subject screaming built not bought, then they have an impossible time selling their "done" truck at pennies on the dollar because nobody wants to be have that phrase thrown at them, that my friends is karma.   I would also like to thank Fester for scoring both of those trucks, I feel like both should be kept as is forever, it takes a special person to want to do that, so much love Fester.

I would stand up for Fester any day or hour. He has more pride about what he does then most of ppl that build there own trucks do.  I would be very honored if Fester would call me and tell me he would like to buy my truck. It gives a person good feelings to know that there pride and joy would be loved just as much as you put into it in the first place.  And as Jim said he has a Bad Ass Ranger in his garage he has built. I am one of the few that has been lucky and I say lucky enough to have been invited to his house and talk trucks and drink a beer or two with him.

Fester is turning into the Jay Leno of Mini Truckin! Seriously though, it's just plain ignorance. Not everybody has a full fab shop in their garage to build a truck. Would you rather some kid buy a truck that was already built, with quality work done to it, or go buy a HF welder and hack up an S-10 that will fall apart on the interstate?

It dosent matter whether you build or buy your ride as long as you are happy with it and you are doing it for yourself. People put WAAYYYYYY too much emphasis on impressing other people and worrying about what the next guy has. The Built vs bought topic has been beat to death over the years. Being true to the "lifestyle" of customizing vehicles is a whole lot bigger than which person built this and which person built that. Just build or buy your ride (to your liking) enjoy it while your doing it and be proud of it when your out cruising it. I only know Fester online but I admire what he has done for the trucks he has bought and the one he is building. Anybody that hates on someone so dedicated to restoring a piece of History of our culture is an idiot. Period!

if you think you have to completely build a cover truck in your garage to be a part in this scene, don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. i bought my truck bagged and bodydropped back in '05. in a couple months i'll be back on the ride finally after a 2 year break doing work on it. i love working on it, but time and money never seem to last long enough. sometimes i wish i would have spent just a little bit more and bought something that was completely done so i could change a few things here and there over the years. instead i bought something that i tore into and took way longer and cost a lot more than i thought it ever would. i'm a die hard minitrucker but many would never know it cuz i was always driving my daily and never my truck. in 5 years time i'll have a truck that is running and driving, bagged, bodydropped, but still needs interior and paint. and this will take another year to finish those. then slowly perfect everything. so really, 5-7 years for me to start with a project truck and finish it. that's a long ass time to me. it would have been nice to spend the money to have something that was completely/perfectly done and have been cruising it the past 5-7 years. lol and the people talking shit, yup, they are haters. we need them to keep us motivated. they won't be around long. they will get into another hobby (hobby to them, our life to us) and be a hater in that scene too. i definitely agree though. if you buy something done, they talk shit cuz you didn't build it. if you built it, they talk shit about a weld you did. so lame. i just hope all the minitruckers do not get discouraged when building something or when a hater talks shit. don't sweat the small stuff and it's all small stuff. karma is a bitch.  oh ya, i wanna meet fester someday. he sounds like a cool ass dude. when i do, i'll buy you a beer and i'll just sit there and listen to you tell sweet minitruckin history stories. :)

I don't know where I fall; I just do what I like. Screw what anyone thinks about me or my ride. But what eats me up is that some of the same people (not all) that keep saying that "built not bought" bullshit are the same guys that own shops that build rides for other people. Now I am no super genius or anything but the guy you are building a ride for, he is paying (I.E. BOUGHT) for your work to that vehicle. I bought my truck from a guy in Dallas already bagged. It had traded hands maybe 5 times before I got it. When I got it, it was on its last leg. I have spent countless hours getting it to the stage it is at now, which is nowhere near worthy of any feature, but I bought it already bagged because I wanted a truck I could learn off of, I love this body style, and I love this hobby. If that makes me a poser, that's cool, I am still gonna keep doing what I love. I hate the fact that any vehicle gets torn and thrashed by someone that doesn't know what they have and really they just don't care. I love the fact that there are people out there like Fester who will buy a vehicle to restore it back to shape or people that will buy them and either leave them alone or make them their own. I have never met or talked to Fester, but from what I have read I can't wait til I do. Until then, Fester, keep doing what you’re doing.

---------------------------------------------Originally posted by SSM-WebMasterI would like to start a boycott of "built not bought" stickers and "theology".. the tresnd of thinking that way needs to change to better our scene. ---------------------------------------------lol .thanks kris,  we do sell the shirt and the sticker. ( no offense taken) Our whole intention behind the shirts "BUILT NOT BOUGHT" was refering to getting  people to customize their rides instead of settling for what one of the manufacturers forced us to buy. Who wants to drive cookie cutter crap. These manufacturers and always debuting a bad ass car or truck and when it finally gets into production its not as killer as the prototype looked. I know they had to cut costs and cheapen things up but buy the vehicle and build it to your satisfaction. We dont care if you built it or joe shmo built it....just as long as its somthing custom and you take care of it. I could care less who owned the truck prior....if its custom and you enjoy it then thats all that matters in my eyes. Big thumbs up to fester. never met him,  but anyone who is putting that much detail into a truck is good in my eyes. And who gives a rats a$$ how much someone has into their ride or  if they paid someone else to do it. If they have the money to go that route then who in the hell is to judge them. just mt 2 cents. People took the slogan that we sell the wrong way...it happens all the time. We can never figure out what way people are going to take a slogan when we print it.
