Hmmm….
I have been around this scene for some time now, not as long as Bob Hase and the van craze, but for some time, and have seen a lot of things come and go.
There is definitely a broken family in this scene; if you’re not in the “in” clique, you can’t possibly be someone, nor have a cool ride people like.
When I first met fester I was stationed in Hawaii. We talked on SSM, and came to figure out we lived like 3 miles from each other in phoenix.
Fester told me when I was back home in Az he wanted me to paint some stuff for him as he liked the stuff on my website, and we got long when we talked.
(oh and by the way for those who have not met fester, we call him that because he looks like Uncle Fester from the Adams family…really no shit!!)
Anyways about 6 months or so goes by and I get back to my home in phoenix, and finally get to meet fester face to face. A week or two goes by and he tells me “ok I have something I want you to look at, but please don’t tell anyone about it….”
Little did I know in his garage was the World Famous Last Look Toyota, and I was going to be cutting, grinding, welding and repainting many areas of this canvas which was once painted by one of The Best airbrush artists in the world.
What a shocker let me tell ya.
And I am no new person to Last Look (LL) I have a friend whose wife is the daughter of the famous Little Newt, who helped build LL. I have pictures of the original build, before she had graphics, when the roll cage and most of her inners was fresh fiber glass and bare metal. Also pics when Chris Wattier’s ex Nissan was at the shop when Kal Koncepts was still painting both of them…
Anyways I really appreciate this thread, and know personally how this entire situation has effected fes, and want to say thanks to Kris and Bob and all the others who have posted such nice things about Fester. He is not into this for money, recognition, or trophy’s, he honestly likes his trucks and really cares about keeping them the same as day one. ( I know I have wanted to rebuild the rear air setup on LL for awhile, as the 3 inches of total lift really sucks getting it on and off a trailer… but fes just wont have it. He has no plans on changing anything on any of his trucks, keeping them the same as day one…
Also I had the rare opportunity to meet the guy who originally built the bright green Power Ranger which was featured in MiniTruckin along with (now) fester’s Purple Ranger way back in the 90’s or early 2000’s, and I just happened to be driving Barney the purple ranger, and his jaw dropped seeing the truck. He looked at it up and down from every angle, and was completely astonished the truck was almost exactly as they built it 10-15 years ago..
This is exactly why fester keeps the trucks the same. Someone put a lot of time, effort and money into these rolling art works, and if we keep ruining them, or saying bad things to those who buy them done, this scene will fail, it is only a matter of time..
Look how much the scene has changed in the past 15 years, 10 years, shit look how much it has changed in the past 5 years…
Ok sorry for the long posting, back to painting on Fester’s other poser truck Too Sloww….
“Fess get me another bottle of Jack, its guna be a long night……”
