ok.... my distributor is not the same as yours. Mine when you hold it in your hand and align the GEAR EXACTLY like you have it in your picture, the rotor button is NOT anywhere near 9 O clock position. The brass tip on rotor button points at about the 12:30 or 1:00 O Clock position. I could give you my cell phone number and then if you text me, we could do this much much faster. I could take a photo, text it from iPhone to you and show you quickly, or even send you a video clip. my cell 919.522.8156 - David

It is impossible to have the little "hump" lined up to the little "hole" by the gear, AND ALSO AT THE SAME TIME, Have the rotor button point to 9 O'Clock on My distributor.

Is it possible my distributor is not the exact same type you have? Mine has the Mitsubishi emblem on the side by the plug in on the black plastic.

I have the #1 pLUG ON THE Compression Stroke at TDC with HB Lined all up. Removed distributor, lined up marks(they were not off much), then carefully re-insterted in. Now distributor rotor button points between #1 Plug Position and #3 Plug position on the Distributor CAP. So as soon as I begin to turn engine over, #3 will fire, then #4, then#2, clockwise rotation.

My distributor cap plug positions(before turning distributor to advance or retard timing, bolts centered) are: #1 is in the 10 O-Clock position, #3 is at 2 O-Clock, #4 is at 4 O-Clock and #2 is at 8 O-Clock

Congratulations man! I knew you could do it!

You need to post some pictures of your dist. and the cap, so I can see the difference you are talking about.

When I first messed with one of these trucks, I knew how to get the dist. put in properly, but I was not sure where #1 on the cap should be positioned.......if you notice on some of my first B2600i pics, I had the #1 at 12:00 o-clock.......BECAUSE I had the rotor in the wrong position on the triangular post it slips onto.......so once I realized the #1 spark plug post on the cap should point to the 9:00 o-clock position, it all made sense to me then.........when that rotor is not on/in the correct relationship to the triangular post it pushes onto, you don't have enough "pivot room" with the distributor to get the ignition timing at 5 degrees BTDC.

So, where is your #1 spark plug tower on your cap positioned now?

My timing isn't perfect. Here is what is happening. Runs but won't idle smooth. When I use timing light. Timing mark shows up to the LEFT of the gauge on the oil pump cover. If I turn distributor clockwise, towards cab. Timing mark comes towards the left 6 degree mark, but engine dies down to much. Do I need to adjust the timing more or move plug wires and take out distributor again and move it. ???? Maybe ONE notch on dist gear? Timing line should show up in the field of -6---T---+6 range. Not inch and a half to LEFT of the markings on HB.

This is EXACTLY what I was typing about on my previous post........Can you take a pic of your dist. cap.......and maybe the plug wires so I can see where your at on the setup?
You should not have to pull the dist. if you installed it like I mentioned earlier.
