It is impossible to have the little "hump" lined up to the little "hole" by the gear, AND ALSO AT THE SAME TIME, Have the rotor button point to 9 O'Clock on My distributor.
Is it possible my distributor is not the exact same type you have? Mine has the Mitsubishi emblem on the side by the plug in on the black plastic.
I have the #1 pLUG ON THE Compression Stroke at TDC with HB Lined all up. Removed distributor, lined up marks(they were not off much), then carefully re-insterted in. Now distributor rotor button points between #1 Plug Position and #3 Plug position on the Distributor CAP. So as soon as I begin to turn engine over, #3 will fire, then #4, then#2, clockwise rotation.
My distributor cap plug positions(before turning distributor to advance or retard timing, bolts centered) are: #1 is in the 10 O-Clock position, #3 is at 2 O-Clock, #4 is at 4 O-Clock and #2 is at 8 O-Clock
