Nice job, Em........

Started on some of the glass work tonight, I am actually using honest to g*d fiberglass mat and pure resin. I drilled holes in the grille where I am putting the mat strips so the resin has a surface to stick on.

Pics:

This is to make the grille look more factory and not just modified. Getting the headlights to sit properly and look flat/flush is going to be the hardest part because of the contour that they have naturally, but I am going to do my best with this. If this goes well then there might be another modification to the grille in the works.

Got more glass work done today before going out to family holiday dinner. Reason for the milkshake area near the corner light, I needed to get a lot of the original grille out of the way in this area, but I wanted some more material here instead of a thin piece of plastic. I also believe that this will look better in the end once it's all sanded and fits perfectly around the headlights. I think that there is a before picture somewhere here to show how much of the original material I removed. Anyways with this here I had to mod my corner lights slightly (removed a small plastic lip) and do a bit of sanding/grinding to get them to fit properly. Well they do, and pics will come later.

Here is a better view of how i am drilling the holes in the grille for the fiberglass resin to go into. It is easy to see the different angles to help give it a stronger hold. Some areas with the holes will be filled in on both sides, others will be by themselves (like this set of holes)

If I do decide to go through with the wiper arm mod (once I find a working pair again) then this is the general area where they will be mounted.

I empathize with you on the fiberglass work Em, lots of labor in that.

There is some new stuff on the market I saw in a car magazine {Hot Rod, I think it was} where you just mold it to the way you want it, and it hardens up. Then you just put the body filler on it, work it, and paint.

I just can't remember the name just now.

Trailer work!!!

I made some progress on two fronts. Working on the fiberglass on the grille, I got tired of some of the clutter building up in the shop, so I decided to make my mess bigger

Remember my trailer thread? I probably need to find it again to post this into:

I am getting Will's (R90Baron over on MT) long bed and welding this piece that I am making here to it. This is just the trailer's A-frame (i guess that's what it is called) that I will be installing a box and trailer jack onto. I figure that with the piece of frame that holds the spare tire welded to my trailer A-frame it will be a lot easier by the time I am actually able to get Will's long bed half over here. All I would need to do is to cut/clean ends off, weld together, fish plate the welds, and get it inspected/tagged.

I am also going to be doing some custom leaf spring mounts to be better suited for trailer usage. If you look in my trailer thread and see how high the bed sits on the frame, you'll see why I am going to modify such. Also I am going to be eliminating the shackles since I have 2 sets of mounts in decent shape. I am also planning on adding a leaf or two, to keep the spring rate up while limiting the travel. Will said that the axle for this bed is under K6's truck, he didn't say anything about the condition of the leaf springs though or if he still had em. The leaf springs on the axle that I have here are in pretty good condition, as is the axle. I am highly considering taking these leaf springs and putting them onto Redemption with my helper leafs, and taking the more worn out leafs currently on Redemption and using them for trailer service.

And the first fish plate on one of the corners, followed by a closeup.

I am making the plates out of good pieces of frame that I clean up with a wire wheel. This frame was in remarkably good condition

Oh, and see how high it sits when it's on the leaf springs at stock locations? I'm going to spread out the leafs a bit, probably about 3-5 inches each way (space permitting)

Outside as well. Can see from here top plate too, bottom plate is about the same, lol.

As you can see it's also primed.

Well I got more done on my custom trailer, I completed the construction of the A frame that I will be attaching to a donor back half frame (when I get it.)

Pics, man I sure love welding

Plated the final corners for the a-frame:

A closeup of my pretty weld, this didn't take very much grinding AT ALL, too pretty

And a shot of the whole a-frame.

Once I have the trailer frame welded together, I will be installing a dolly on it so it will be easier to load onto the truck. And of course the wiring harness for the factory tail lights. I will be using a custom harness to attach to my truck, and have an adaptor for standard trailer harnesses for when I use this on different vehicles.

When completed, I have to get a tag from the state and weld it onto the trailer, then get it inspected, pay a $25 fee (around there anyways) and I have a trailer legal for use

This sadly will be a while before it is completed as I am in a financial crunch and the owner of the trailer back half is in another half of the state.

1st thing, EmJay did you find another stack? or did you decide against the other one. If you need one let me know i have access to them, Im in charlotte but atlanta isnt too far away! 2nd thing. ThaFox! you may be the man of the hour! i may be contacting you for a VE pump rebuild quote. I have one off a perkins 4 135 and am contemplating a pump rebuild and getting injectors done. Good work on that RF though EmJay.

I only need one stack for this, the one that i have is huge, and I'm only running a single exhaust anyways. Still not set on how I'm going to mount it though. What I'm also considering right now is a bigger fuel tank that mounts under the doors, and trying to figure out how I can run a simple dual tank setup. I have a few ideas, still uncertain though. That and I'm the type that would want 2 fuel gauges and we all know that I just need to get this thing running.

I got a tank off an 89 f150 behind the rear axle. Think its a 17 gallon but its got a pump in it and all. If you decide to use it. Grab the fuel filter housing. It works like a valve body. The flow determines the switch. Have to go into detail later. But its snug back in the rails. May have to slide it in to the rails.
